The region of Kysuce has historically belonged to the Trenčín county, later Považská county. Nowadays it is part of Žilina region. The inhabitants live in four towns (Čadca, Kysucké Nové Mesto, Turzovka, Krásno nad Kysucou) and 33 municipalities.

The region has got several unique sights and attractions: natural, historic and cultural, including the natural reservations Veľká Rača in the Kysucké Beskydy range and Veľký Javorník and Malý Polom in the Javorníky range.

Historic narrow gauge forest railway in Nová Bystrica – Vychylovka is one of the attractions of Kysuce Open-air Museum located on the border of the regions of Orava and Kysuce. The railway, overcoming the altitude difference of 217 m, has existed since 1926 when two separate forest railways at Orava and Kysuce were connected.

Other historic relicts include the reconstructed manor house in Radoľa, the seat of the Kysuce Museum historical exhibition, which makes up a very important spot with a rich history, together with an archaeological site at Koscelisko. The Námestie slobody square in Kysucké Nové Mesto, with arcaded houses and a town hall in its centre, is precious as well. The architecture of the City house in Čadca is very impressive and spectacular. It is the local government seat but the Kysuce gallery has its chamber-like space here too. Across the road there is a Baroque St. Bartholomew church. The Neo-Gothic church in Raková and the Late-Baroque one in Skalité, as well as the Baroque constructions in Turzovka and Zákopčie are precious monuments, too.

The Veľká Rača ski resort belongs to the most popular winter sports centres in Slovakia. Less important ski facilities can be found in Čadca and Makov. Besides above mentioned localities, nice summer moments can also be experienced at the banks of the Čadca – Milošová, Rusnácka and Dlhá dams.
