Describe of district

The district is situated in the southern part of Žilina region. The road No. I/65 as well as railroad cross it and connect the district with the south of central Slovakia.

A spa town of Turčianske Teplice is the centre of the district, which on one hand side limits the industrial development in its area but on the other hand it predetermines the tourism orientation of the district’s development.

The district has the highest use of its accommodation facilities bed capacity. In spite of the fact that the district does not have any large industrial plants, there are several smaller firms operating in the field of food and beverages, metals and metal products manufacture, machines manufacture and furniture manufacture. The region is also rich in mineral waters.
